Current

Herbert studies how the outcomes of ecological change are mediated by food web dynamics. His project in the Nelson lab uses mangrove encroachment as a case study to explore how foundation species turnover effects estuarine nekton community composition, habitat suitability, and diets. Herbert will be beginning a joint postdoctoral position with the South Florida Natural Resources Center and Rehage lab at Florida International University in May to study how hydroclimatic variation and extreme events have effected the recreational fishery in the Everglades over the last fifty years.
